Sharepoint Users Questions
I'm tasked with finding the best intranet software for our internal only use. I did a test of MS sharepoint, but it seems like a regular HTML editor. I'm hoping to get a good structure/template- it doesn't need any login or user management (it will only work in our closed network), but is easy to modify/add information and add file attachments (which shows last date added/modified), etc. PHP based and maybe even open source would be ideal. Anyone know of the best intranet software?
I started my own computer repair, servicing, web design, etc. company. I am in need of some sort of software that can keep everything organized for me. I used to work at Circuit City firedog. They used something called ASTEA which you used to set up customers in your database. You got all their info, and it printed out a sheet with their info, services being done and could print stickers to put on the pcs.
I need something either online, or software that can connect to an online database so that me and my employees can access it from other places from our own pcs. I need to be able to schedule and maintain customer info.
It'd be great if, as an admin, I could also set up employee info on there too.
Thanks a lot.
Also, I'm a huge user of Microsoft products, such as Office, Expression, Accounting, etc. I heard something about SharePoint. Do you guys know if I can achieve what I need through SharePoint? I was told that it was for collaborating.
I'm currently setting up a SharePoint site for my company.

I am a administrator on this SharePoint site.

How do I "change my view". Meaning, how do I view the website and navigate through it with just the rights of the user only? I want to make sure everything works properly (i.e. can add items to certain areas, other areas require approvals).
Does anyone know of a quick (easy) appointments schedule application, could be access, sharepoint, frontpage , opensource etc. Could be sql/server, mysql, oracle exchange based.
It would need to support 6 users sharing three rooms making client bookings and saving notes.
Not a large app but needs to be neat.

Any help appreciated !
From big SharePoint documentation files, it looks like they use 'site' where I would think 'page'. Perhaps it is a matter of perspective and the user sees a 'page' but the constructor sees the 'site'. But that is sort of unclear to me without them explicitly saying so. Anybody have definitive info on the MS lexicon?
can somebody who has experienced them both explain which one has advantage over other,
i am working in a firm using "windows xp professional"
as the operating system for all users.
which portal would be better under that conditions?
I would like to have a Discussion Board like "Yahoo Groups" but just for users inside the company (due to confidentiality concerns).
What solution could I indicate to our IT staff for this? We already considered SharePoint but as far as we know it does not work like Y!G where the discussion board is concerned.

The main point is: it should work as like Y!G as possible. Even better if it is free! :-)
Hello guys,
I just wondering how can I hide the sharepoint buttons in sharepoint webparts?
That is because I feel very pointless if user can acess to the sharepoint portal view through the sharepoint webpart page (cos the sharepoint buttons which is on the webpart are there allow user to go into the sharepoint portal) to do modification. Pls Helpppppppppppppppp~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How do you make a sharepoint site accessible from outside the intranet and how do you still make sure it is secure?

I have SBS2003 running and it is serving as an Exchange server currently and want to add Sharepoint to it, but make it accessible to remote users.
Does Microsoft Sharepoint Have Points System? What I mean is, for the discussion threads or use forums can you enable users to grade responses so that submitters recieve points for their efforts?
I have created a folder on Sharepoint 2007 called "test1" -- i have given couple user access to this folder. Everytime some user login into sharepoint they see "other folders" as well as "test1".. they could see other folders but they don't have access. I DON'T THE USERS FROM TEST1 TO SEE OTHER FOLDERS. WHERE DO I HAVE TO MAKE A CHANGE. ANY HELP WILL BE GREAT.

THANK YOU

When a user wants to view Risks/Issues of a project from MS Project Web Access, a username/password page pops up. Where do I set this info? I have already created users in SharePoint Central Admin page as well as in SharePoint web interface (Site Settings -> Manage users) but none of the users work (the users are on a different domain: e.g. DOMAIN\user).

There are people trying to access the risks/issues pages and they can't. Any help is super greatly appreciated.
How can learn this? Do you have any easy to learn this product? can I download trial version?
