Sharepoint on SBS2003

How do you make a sharepoint site accessible from outside the intranet and how do you still make sure it is secure?

I have SBS2003 running and it is serving as an Exchange server currently and want to add Sharepoint to it, but make it accessible to remote users.

SharePoint--Make some columns unavailable to users

I'm trying to make an sharepoint site with a software support area (the user enters in the issue they are having with their software).

One of the columns is "assigned to" which refers to whom is going to solve their issue. Currently, this column is part of the 'ticket" that the user submits, so they are able to assign it to Person a or Person b. However, we really don't want the users to be able to assign it to a specific person, because that person may not have the knowledge on how to solve their problem.

I want to make this column only visible to the site's admins (so we can assign it to the appropriate person) and completely invisible, or greyed out, to the users.

Is there anyway to do this? If there is, but it requires FrontPage, then it is not an option for me because my work laptop does now have FrontPage.

Thanks so much!

In Sharepoint, why do some users have to enter ADS\user id to log in

We have a sharepoint site and we've noticed that some users automatically access the site when they click on the link while others get a login screen. All users are on the same network. Also, why do some users have to enter "ADS\user id" to log in?

¿How to update user content under Sharepoint 2003 without having to shutdown the site

I have joined a company that uses Sharepoint 2003 to show some data online like cubes, dashboards and certain data.

The site is publicly available (anonymous access, no individual accounts), but when it's time to update the site's content, i've been told, the admin needs to disable the anonymous access (the site now prompts for user/pwd) and restarts the webserver -- all these in order to be able to log-in as admin and update the content. After the site is updated, the admin switchs again to anonymous access and the webserver is restarted.

Is this the way to do it? The admin hasn't found a way to log-in as an admin (and be able to update content) without having to restart the web server - the idea is not to interrupt the service while updating our contents.
The admin says the sharepoint site won't allow him to log-in as an admin (using a web browser) when the site is set to allow anonymous access.

Any ideas?

Sharepoint Missing Documents

Hi I have been given the task of finding out what happened to some missing documents uploaded in to sharepoint. We are using Sharepoint 2003

I mapped a drive in to a sharepoint site and I moved some documents from one site to another site shared document.

user rang up later and complained that the documents are missing from the folder we moved them to.

now I can not find where the documents are.

The problem is

1) How can find these missing documents.

I have mapped to the the top site and then using windows explorer searched the entire site tree and I can not find the documents.

2) I want to know if I somehow we can get a track of what happened to the document either using sharepoint or even going in to the database and see some table that can tell us if the document was deleted, moved etc and by who. Is this possible.

JavaScript: Is there a way to allow a script to conitue after an error (from the client side)

We have a sharepoint site that has stopped working after a web part was removed. Sadly we cannot add the web part back in since this error occurs whenever a script to add the webpart runs. The error is caused because a form with id CTL01 is missing, so it's property MSOGallery_FilterVisible has a null value. If I could allow the browser to continue running the script without halting on this error then I'd be able to add the webpart back in & stop the error permanently. I have admin rights to the site, but not the server (so cannot go in the backdoor to edit the code directly), and the front door (i.e. sharepoint's interface) doesn't work because of this error.
Any tips greatly appreciated. I have FireFox 3 & IE7 installed, but can use other browsers if anyone knows of something that should work.
Thanks in advance,
JB

Step by step, what happens when IIS starts up

I have a sharepoint site that has problems loading a third party web part. When I reset IIS and then try to load the page, the web part errors out (some kind of initialization error). If I then open the web.config file for that site and immediately save it (without changing anything), I can then load the page ok. This is because when you save the web.config file, it causes IIS to reload the application. It looks like something is not happening during the inital startup of IIS (or maybe some invalid cached information is not clearing). I'm hoping to understand how IIS initializes and that this will help me resolve the issue.

How to disable scroll bar in Page Viewer Web part;s iframe

I am building a site using sharepoint services 3.0. I want to display a Particular Page from my sharepoint site into a different page that is also in that sharepoint site. For example, the page that I want to show is "Sample.aspx" and the page where I want "Sample.aspx" to be placed as an <iframe> is "Master.aspx." Now I have created the "Sample.aspx" and it doesnt have a height more than 100px. In order to create a <iframe> I used the Page Viewer web part and located http://server/Sample.aspx and set the height to 800px so that its enough for the <iframe> to show the Sample.aspx without have to show a scroll bar. Now this works fine in internet explorer but when you browse using FireFox, you can see a huge 800px scroll bar which is not supposed to be there because the sample.aspx page has a smaller height that is not bigger than 100px.
Now, how can I remove the scroll bar from displaying in Firefox?

What;s the proper way to form manifest and dwp files for sharepoint services 3.0 webpart cab files

I'm writing web parts for sharepoint services 3.0 (NOT 2.0 and NOT office 2007 sharepoint server either). Our company is writing data driven webparts to be used in our sharepoint site, however... any web part i've tried to install isn't working (they work fine in asp.net 2.0 so i am suspecing my dwp and manifest files aren't correctly working. I have a DLL and a .config file...

I keep getting the error that "webpart does not inherit from Microsoft.Sharepoint.Controls.Webpart and could not be loaded" but according to the WSS 3.0 documentation asp.net 2.0 webparts CAN and SHOULD be complely compatible with wss3.0.
